5040 Peak Hut – Hišimy̓awiƛ
- Completion: 2018
- Type: Commercial
- Location: Vancouver Island, BC
Hišimy̓awiƛ, located near Port Alberni on a ridge at approximately 1350 m elevation, is the first Alpine Club of Canada hut constructed on Vancouver Island since the 1930s. The foundation design consisted of steel column bases, each with a bearing plate, dowelled into the strong bedrock underlying the hut. Construction access from the logging road below the site was by helicopter or by hiking over three kilometres through the forest and alpine meadow.
